This coming Saturday, August 13, marks the 6th annual George F. Hempt Memorial MS Polo Match which is being held at the polo fields across the Carlisle Pike from Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg. This wonderful philanthropic event takes donations from local businesses and citizens alike in order to generate an atmosphere of charity and fun, with all of the proceeds going to the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Chapter President, Margie Adelmann says, “We are very fortunate to have so many generous businesses in the area that donate their products and services to help us direct more of the funds raised from our sponsors and guests to programs, services and research to help those living with multiple sclerosis.”
The gates open at noon and among the included events are the Terrier Races, the Panera Bread Children’s Tent, tailgating, and of course, the polo match (starting at 2pm), with the traditional stomping of the divots – which is intended to be a symbolic stomping out of MS. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic baskets and blankets as well as their Jack Russel Terriers, should they desire to enter them into the friendly competition. Additionally, Panera Bread will be providing concessions.
Last year was a record year for this event, with over $220,000 raised for this wonderful cause. This year is anticipated to be even bigger and better! As in years past, the Camera Box donates their expert services to capture the event. They take hundreds of pictures over the course of the weekend and provide wonderful memories.
Tammy and Geoff have been long time supporters of the National MS Society donating their services to Polo, Walk MS, Leadership Class and much more! We hope to see everybody there!
